Tomi Cellars is the Winery project from film industry veterans Boyd Shermis and Denise Davis. We currently have winery and tasting room space at the Industrial Wine Gardens in Buellton, California. Boyd has worked the last several years to upgrade and streamline the winery facilities, formerly run by Ross Rankin of Imagine Wine. This crossover period gave Tomi Cellars a long ‘runway’ to get their own vision of a winery and tasting room off of the ground.
Winemaker and winery strategist. Old School, New School, Post-Modern School – Boyd has been studying winemaking for twenty years. Then in 2019, Boyd decided to ‘take the plunge’ by assisting Winemaker Ross Rankin, of Imagine Wine. Starting as Ross’ ‘Cellar Rat,’ he learned some of Ross’ old school methods, following techniques that have been in place for hundreds, or even thousands of years. Layer in Boyd’s extensive studies in mid-twentieth century and early twenty first century techniques, and you have a recipe for classic wines, created with a combination of good ol’ fashioned hand-crafted methods and state of the art techniques that bring structure, complexity and age-ability to every small batch that he creates.
Friend, partner and Assistant Winemaker at Tomi Cellars. Nate’s studies in wine making include an Associate of Arts & Sciences degree in Viticulture and Oenology from Southwest Wine Center at Yavapai College in Arizona. Nate has been helping out in all facets of our wine making, from harvest through bottling. He continues to explore the world of wine, tasting and comparing wines from all over the world.
Winery owner, creative director and inspiration for all that Boyd does in the vineyard and cellar. Denise began her journey with Boyd over twenty years ago, building a profile of over a thousand “wines we’ve liked” that now serves as the reference and backbone of what we try to do at Tomi Cellars; make the finest wines we can possibly make. Wines which express location, varietal character and the passion we share for winemaking.
